Description ZF Lifeguard 9 ATF – Automatic Transmission Fluid (for ZF Automatic Passenger Car Transmissions (ZF 8HP and 9HP) ZF Lifeguard 9 ATF Automatic Transmission Fluid – 1 Litre ZF 8HP and 9HP ZF LifeguardFluid 9 has been developed by ZF specifically for use in ZF 8HP and ZF 9HP automatic passenger car transmissions (see full list below; if you have an 8HP or 9HP transmission that is not listed, you may need an alternative fluid; please contact us for advice if in doubt). It is the only aftermarket approved fluid for these transmissions. The friction behavior has been optimally adapted for these transmissions, and is consistent over the entire service life. These features are a prerequisite for perfect shifting characteristics and vibration-free operation. Using other transmission fluids can lead to various adverse effects, ranging from significant deterioration in shifting characteristics to transmission failure. Changing the transmission fluid is generally only necessary when repairs are carried out; ZF automatic transmissions are usually filled with lifetime oil. However, due to the many factors influencing the service life of transmissions in individual operation, ZF recommends an oil change after 150,000 km (approx 93,000 miles) for its transmissions. In operating conditions with high temperatures and loads, or with unknown vehicle use in the past, it can make sense to change the transmission oil at shorter intervals.
