There are many theories as to why Cyano bacteria appears in fish tanks but after many many years and a great many instances in our own and customers tanks we dismiss all. The occurrence has no pattern that we have ever noticed and it can appear in poor or great quality water. Slime algae dose not like high flow and better stronger flow can help. May not be safe with Sponges. Veterinarian Approved How to use Blue vet Red Cyano Rx slime algae treatment: For best results, siphon out as much Cyano Bacteria as possible from your tank. Switch off your protein skimmer and remove any media such as carbon or phosphate remover. Remove a cup of water from your tank. Mix 1 level scoop of Red Cyano Rx slime algae treatment in the cup for every 10 gallons (37.9 litres) of tank volume. Dissolve fully and pour mixture into the tank. 24 hours of completing the treatment perform a 25% water change and you may now turn back ON the Protein skimmer; Extra foam being produced by the Skimmer is normal and will settle down. It is also safe to resume use of carbon and ozone. If Cyano Bacteria is still visible, 48 hours after treatment, perform a 25% water change and repeat the treatment.
